Pretty Pink Kimono - 2nd June 2017

Today I finally took the plunge and used this pretty pink floral fabric for a kimono style cardigan / top. I so wanted to use this for a pretty item that would really show off the fabric rather than making something that would be hidden away in a bag or sat idly on a sofa. The size of the piece gives a brilliant display of the pattern, especially at the back.
I tried to make the curve of the front sections as smooth as possible and I used rolled hems throughout to give a delicate finish as the fabric is so light. I have left the back hem square and I am happy with the results.
I am sure that I will use this design again, I really like the casual look of the cardigan, I would, however, make some changes to the process. I.e. The curve of the front sections would be easier to mark out and hem if they were cut together (i.e. double the fabric) prior to cutting the fabric in two. I also used a back seam in this piece but I feel that this seam could be avoided altogether if only the front section was cut in the initial stages.
I am pleased with the delicate rolled hems on the front and bottom hems but I would like to try some bolder cuffs on my next piece, some turn-ups would give some extra weight which might help with the flow of the garment.
All in all a good experience! I am happy with the item, I still love the fabric, I surprised myself with how easily I got back into the rolled-hem-habit, and I am feeling inspired to try some new designs.

Back of the kimono - such beautiful fabric!

Using my machine to make the rolled hem, the very long rolled hem...
